Town Centre Regeneration

Town Centre regeneration is a high priority initiative with many Local Authorities in the UK. Recently the Scottish Government announced a Town Centre Regeneration Fund, committing £60m in 2009-10, to improve Scotland's town centres and local high streets. Similar initiatives exist in other parts of the UK.

The key objective of any Town Centre Regeneration program is to help our town centres adapt to modern markets, and supply the access, mix of facilities and services, and environment that will meet the needs of local communities and businesses.

Core to the success of this program is the provision of wireless Broadband access. Wireless Broadband or Wi-Fi allows local businesses, residents, scholars and visitors to connect to the Internet anywhere in a town centre using computers, laptops, mobile phones or any Wi-Fi device. In addition, wireless solutions, would allow the Council’s CCTV network to be expanded more easily and quickly without the cost of cable maintenance and disruption through civil engineering digs.

By introducing Wireless Broadband access, the town would gain competitive advantage over neighbouring towns in the region, and support the Council's aspirations of creating a more productive, higher value local economy.
